An event that had a huge impact on the county of Yorkshire this year was the Tour de France. The weather was just brilliant. Yorkshire was showcased to the world in all its glory. The landscape could not have looked better, people thronged the route to cheer on and applaud the racers and communities embraced the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity. The magic of the Tour de France was relived on Monday evening through the images that several members had taken prior to and during the race itself.

Yellow bicycles - large and small - in every conceivable location were photographed. Human cyclists were represented in many forms. One was made of straw and goggled and lycra clad, seemed ready to join in. One ‘cyclist’ had come unstuck at an obstacle labelled ‘Tour de Fence’. Shop window displays were themed accordingly. Bunting criss-crossed streets. A male spectator sported a fetching pair of yellow bicycle earrings. Crowds were photographed showing smiling faces enjoying the roadside atmosphere. School children had created and displayed great artwork. Colourful banners had been produced. The cavalcade of sponsors vehicles was recorded and also the support vehicles laden with spare bikes and tyres. Clever photography caught the focused faces of riders, the sense of speed and the thrill of the moment.

Through great photographs taken by members, a great and memorable Yorkshire weekend was relived.

Next week, Peter Thompson DPAGB APAGB will show AV sequences that will include the Outer Hebrides and Granada.
