Miscellany

Vic Brookes & Peter Briggs

A range of subjects, a variety of music and some on screen humour have become the trademarks of an evening with members’ Vic Brookes and Peter Briggs. Vic is often accompanied to meetings by his ten year old grandson, Josh, who had also contributed a few images to the evening’s show.

A trip with English Heritage took Vic on a tour of Liverpool pubs. Many were full of ornate detail, beautifully carvings, chandeliers, embossed ceilings, stain glass windows and highly polished wooden floors. Even the toilets of the famous Philharmonic pub were worthy of a photograph.

Peter captured Autumn Detail through cobweb strewn hedges and bright berries all accompanied by Vivaldi. If You Go Down to the Woods Today was the title for the next set of images which showed again the detail of this type of habitat. There were ferns, fungi, primroses and snowdrops and rays of light falling through trees – and also a goblin!? (See the accompanying picture.) A Trip to the Italian Lakes included snow-capped mountains, colourful markets, villas and the Bernina Express and was accompanied by the music of Andre Rieu.

The busy atmosphere of the Tour de France, the Grand Depart from York’s racecourse, reminded everyone how many officials and vehicles other than bikes were involved. Getting to the Point was a collection of images of our capital city. Striking views of the Shard and from the Shard were shown and all to the music of ELO. Peter then transported members from city life to the peace of Findhorn Valley sharing the landscape detail that he likes to record. Caribbean Blue and the music of Enya as well as some rhythmic Caribbean music followed. There was the beautiful and the abandoned, the wealth and the poverty. The music of Glen Miller set feet tapping as images depicting Wartime at Grosmont were shown. There was everything from a clock indicating blackout time to GIs, from a British bulldog to seamed stockings!

Many thanks to Vic and Peter and also to Josh. Vic and Peter conclude each set of images with a tilted page featuring, a cat or a dog and in one case, an image taken by Josh of his puppy.

Next week, a speaker new to the club, Geoff Perry, will show Northern Landscapes.
