Summer Project Competition

Keith Schubert, a long standing member of the club and much respected photographer, has become over the years, the judge for this particular competition’s entries. There were two subjects to which members could respond by submitting two images for each title that had been taken sometime during the summer.

The first subject was Yorkshire Castles and the second was the town of Richmond. Keith had already considered in great detail the merits of each image in the comfort of his own home before sharing his conclusions with everyone on Monday evening. He found many attributes that he appreciated in each image and also provided thoughts on ways that some images could have been improved.

Entries for Richmond ranged from a very good panorama of Richmond taken from a high vantage point to the red valerian clad walls of the castle. Castle Bolton, Middleham Castle and Helmsley Castle figured amongst others in the second set of images as well as Castle Howard. There were interior monochrome shots and an impressive one of Richmond Castle taken from the river under the arch of a bridge which framed both the castle walls and their reflection.

From those viewed, Keith selected the image below taken by Pam Pope as the overall winner from both sets of photographs. He liked the dawn atmosphere, the quality of which he likened to the subtleties of a pastel picture.

Many thanks to Keith. Next week, club members, Vic Brookes and Peter Briggs will present Miscellany.
